Imprisoned Hikers Share Their Stories

DULUTH - Hikers who were imprisoned in Iran for more than two years held a book signing and talked about their experience at Fitger's Thursday.

After living in Syria for almost a year, Sarah Shourd said she didn't expect any trouble when she decided to vacation in northern Iraq.

At the end of her vacation she experienced something few others ever do.

Shroud said, "I mean I was angry a lot. I screamed at times. I beat at the walls of my cell, I almost lost my mind many times, but I was always able to bring myself back. I think it's the strength of my family, I thought about my mother a lot, how much she sacrificed for me."

Shourd says she maintained her sanity by studying, exercising, praying and meditating.

The hikers were detained in 2009 and released in September 2011.
