Marijuana Lights Given to Charity in Superior
By:
SUPERIOR - Lights that were once used to grow marijuana are now helping out a Superior nonprofit. Between 2009 and 2012 the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department seized more than $14,000 in lights and other equipment from marijuana growers.
Instead of auctioning them off, the department donated the items to Bay Produce, a nonprofit that grows beefsteak and grape tomatoes.
"We put lights up for the first time and it helps our grape tomato plants get off to a good start, healthy start, Challenge Center/Bay Produce grower Richard Fisher said. “The plants will be stronger for spring so just lets us get to a better start."
Bay Produce has been growing tomatoes for more than 15 years.
The organization provides training and employment for people with disabilities.
