SUPERIOR - This month Douglas County and Superior are taking a proactive approach to keep kids safe. As part of Child Abuse Prevention month, students, teachers, social workers and law enforcement celebrated kids with presentations and art work.

Coordinators are also asking residents to get involved with protecting kids by becoming a foster parent, volunteering for youth advocate programs and agencies or even donating.

"Money is very important to support nonprofits,” Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank said. “A lot of agencies and a lot of program contributions to so many good causes are an option and very much appreciated and needed."

In 2013 the Douglas County Department of Human Services received 1,229 reports of suspected child abuse and neglect.
