Calling all Diva’s to the Trade Tech Field

ASHLAND - A new program is teaching young girls that hard hats are not only meant to be worn by boys.Nearly 40 girls from area high schools went to Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College for the first ever Diva Tech event.
They did activities, watched presentations and took tours; learning about and how to get into trade and technical careers that are high in demand and traditionally dominated by men.
"Our society tends to somehow make an impression on them that technology degrees, welding degrees that kind of thing is not for girls or not for women,” Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College President Robert Meyer said. “It's absolutely not true and these are outstanding opportunities."
Program coordinators say they will definitely have the event again.
Next time they hope double the amount of girls come.
