DULUTH, Minn. - A dozen people headed out into the woods for a modern day treasure hunt, known as geocaching, at Jay Cooke State Park.
The fun took place Saturday (January 17).
Participants strapped on their snowshoes and then added a modern twist, using GPS units.
Along the treasure hunt they found boxes containing stories and trivia about the park’s history.
"Sometimes people won't go walk out in the woods or maybe your kids don't want to go walking or something like that so you stick technology in their hand, and it's almost like tricking them into going and enjoying the outside,” said Kristine Hiller, Park Naturalist at Jay Cooke State Park.
There will be other special events at the park this year, celebrating its rich 100-year history.
