CABLE, Wis. - Plans have been underway since 2012 and now things are being taken up notch for the IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships. A meticulous process is in place."We have timed out what happens every single minute of every single day," IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships Chief of Event Support James Bolen said. They’re getting Cable ready for one of the most prestigious skiing competitions that will soon take place on Telemark Lodge's grounds."We're hosting it for the U.S.,” said Bolen. “So we wanna make sure that the host country looks really, really good." Crews are grooming the courses."We were out there all summer bulldozing and making some new trails,” said Bolen. Infrastructure is being set up, snowmaking machines are at work and electrical systems are being installed. "We were actually upgrading and fixing the facility,” said Bolen. More than 230 athletes from 14 different countries will compete in eight races running through Telemark's grounds."These athletes that are coming that have overcome disabilities in their lives will be skiing on those hardcore courses,” IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships Secretary Susan Fivert said. “So the athletes are just absolutely incredible." Organizers tell FOX 21 it's the second time in history the International Paralympic Noridc Skiing World Championship will take place on U.S. soil."It's been a surreal experience for us,” said Bolen. "It's really cool, it's really exciting to think the event is coming here." If you're wondering why Cable is the chosen destination, "The very first time that they came here the athletes and the coaches were just blown away by the facilities that we had, as well as the volunteer crews that were brought in to accommodate all of them," said Fivert. The event will kick off Jan. 23 and run until Feb. 1. The competition is predicted to have a more than $2 million economic impact.
