DULUTH - As well as the first official day of winter, Sunday also celebrated World Snowboard Day.
DAMAGE board shop of Duluth teamed up with Ollies for
Alzheimer’s, and co-hosted the fourth–ever event. People were invited to Spirit
Mountain to do ollies and raise money for the 5 million plus Americans who
suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Viktor Simco, Founder of Ollies for Alzheimer’s said, “It's
just cool to see that they want to get involved with something that just means
a little bit more than your typical snowboard or skateboard contest.”
The event was described as the opposite of a limbo contest,
where each time a snowboarder was able to jump and clear the bar, it was raised
another notch higher.
Prizes were also raffled off to give back to the kids of the
snowboarding and skateboarding community.
“We're out here to support the same thing, we all love to
skateboard, we all love to snowboard, and we show passion for wherever it is. When
it comes to events like this, it's great to show it for the community and the
people around skateboarding and snowboarding,” said Ben Olson, the owner of
DAMAGE Board Shop
Simco founded Ollies for Alzheimer’s after his grandfather was
diagnosed with the disease.
