DULUTH - Sunday officially marked the beginning of the winter season,
and in celebration of the longest night of the year, and the promise of more
sunlight to come, Spirit Mountain hosted a winter solstice celebration.
Everyone age 5 and older was invited to cruise down the
tubing lanes, participate in beer–poking with local brews from Bent Paddle, and
warm up next to fire pits.
“We fully believe that the family that skis together, stays
together, which that could be snowboarding, that could be tubing,” said Brandy
Ream, Executive Director of Spirit Mountain. “We want to be able to encourage
all families to come out and participate in activities together. With winter
being sometimes as long as it can be here in Minnesota, it's important that we
provide those opportunities for people to come out and enjoy the time together.”
Luminaries were also being sold for one dollar, with
proceeds benefitting the mountain's youth ski and snowboard programs.
