DULUTH - With a more than $200 dollar gift card a group of local kids got to buy whatever they wanted.
Chloe and Cierra filled their shopping cart with top Christmas toys.
"American Girl Doll," said Chloe Delvalley.
A shopping spree at Target made possible with the Duluth Police Departments Shop with a Cop program."We work with the Salvation Army who selects a few families that need a little extra Christmas boost,” Duluth Police Department Officer Brian Jones. “We raised money internally with our department through our officers."
A total of 6 kids were selected.
With a $200 dollar gift card in their hands and police officers by their sides they stroll the aisles, picking out what they would like to see under the Christmas tree."Excited, excited," said Delvalley." I get to shop with the cops."
Devalley’s mom Stacy Dietz, tell us this opportunity could not have come at a better time.
"I can't even give words to explain, I'm just I feel thankful," said Dietz.
The last few months have been coated with struggle."We're homeless, I'm barely making ends meet, car just recently broke down," said Dietz. “It's like everything falls at the worst time."
On top of that Stacy does not get paid until the day after Christmas."So I was just telling my kids how Christmas was gonna be small and I'll make up the next day and then I get this call," said Dietz.
The call she received gave her family a lot to be thankful for and plenty of cash to shop with."Maybe look for little not expensive stuff so I can get more," said Devalley."I just wanna thank the cops for this program it really does help," said Dietz.
Target gave the kids 25% off their purchases which let them buy up to $250 dollars’ worth of gifts.
