TWO HARBORS - Do North Pizza in Two Harbors has made its pizzas the same way for 60 years, and the owner makes sure the traditions stay strong.
"We're kind of a saw-dust-on-the-floor kind of place and we stick to nuts and bolts,” explained owner Jason Komarek. “That's the way we want it, and I think that fits this area."
At Do North, they make their own crust, sauce, sausage, beef, and grind out their own cheese.
A few years back, the Two Harbors native owner swapped a big-time accounting job, suit and calculator for pizza dough and a flower-filled t-shirt.
"They kind of laugh at me because, oh yeah, 'J', you're doing the same thing you were doing in high school," Komarek laughed.
For him, owning the place he worked in high school is an honor, and he remembers working for the original owner.
After decades of sprinkling cheese and stacking on the toppings, Komarek still can't answer the age-old question of what keeps people coming back for more.
"That's a good question. I honestly don't know," Komarek laughed. "Nothing has really changed much here in 50 years. You know it's still the same recipes the same everything."
Do North is located in Two Harbors at 15 Waterfront Drive.
