Buckeyes Player Changed Number in Teammates Honor
By:
INDIANAPOLIS (AP)- Ohio State's starting defensive tackle Michael Bennett has changed his number for Saturday night's Big Ten Championship game to honor teammate Kosta Karageorge, who was found dead Sunday.
Instead of wearing his usual number, 63, Bennett will wear No. 53, Karageorge's numbers.
Bennett and Karageorge, a walk on nose tackle, were described as close friends.
The 6th ranked Buckeyes had already announced they would be wearing a decal on their helmets with the No. 53 to honor Karageorge.
The team attended his funeral this week.
Authorities have said they believe he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, four days after sending his parents a text message indicating he'd suffered concussion effects.
A coronor is completing an examination of his brain.
Ohio State faces No.11 Wisconsin in Indianapolis Saturday night.
