DULUTH, Minn. - Minnesota's DWI courts are touting the success of the Drug and Alcohol Treatment program.
Officials say there have been fewer DWI re-offenders and less prison time involved.
St. Louis County Judge Shaun Floerke works closely with other supportive services to monitor offenders and help them overcome their addiction.
Judge Floerke believes focusing on the cause of addiction is vital.
"We should take a look at the addiction side of it maybe that's the heart of it if we can fix the addiction side we won't have all the other junk going on," he said.
The goal of the project is to have a credible evaluation of the effectiveness of Minnesota's DWI courts.
