DULUTH - The Duluth City Council approved $250,000 in new tourism tax revenue for the cash-strapped Spirit Mountain.Right now, the outside attraction owes the city of Duluth roughly $1 million for past help with operational costs.Monday night, with the exclusion of Councilor Jay Fosle, the council approved the tourism tax revenue for Spirit Mountain while stressing their confidence in the new Executive Director Brandy Ream."After a long period of mismanagement, we now have, in place, the leadership at Spirit Mountain that we need for it to be successful and to reach its financial potential," said Councilor Joel Sipress.Ream says one strategy to get Spirit Mountain out of the red is to get back to focusing on the skiing and snowboarding side of the business.
