CARLTON- Labor Day Weekend is one of the busiest at Jay Cooke State Park, but questionable weekend weather may put a wrench in people's plans.Park naturalist, Kristine Hiller said, "if it's not nice out the people that are traveling in the area or even the locals may not come out to the parks."Labor Day weekend usually brings a barrage of tourists to see the natural beauty at Jay Cooke, but foggy and rainy conditions may impact revenue at the park.Hiller said, "if you don't have people coming, it's the day passes, but it's the gift store, it's the fire wood all those other extras that people purchase when they come and stay in a park."Park staff is expecting the campgrounds to be busy, but event that isn't for sure.Hiller said, "at the present moment for camping, we are 100% booked but whether or not those people will show up or not, you know they have reservations, some people simply won't show up, other people will decide tomorrow, eh I'm not going to stick around."When it comes to cooking up brats and burgers, a little rain won't stop some from firing up the bbq.Troy McDonald said, "we're still grilling, rain or shine."Adolph Store owner, Shaine Stokke said, "I expect a very busy weekend. Even though the weather is not very cooperative, people still make plans and they follow through with them."However, cloudy skies could have and added bonus.McDonald said, "play games with the kids. Board games are fun. We don't get to do that a lot of the times. At home it's mostly video games. So on the weekends it's nice to get away and do that. Other than that, just hanging out with friends and making the best out of a rainy situation."So whether the festivities bring you outside or keep you inside, folks tell us they plan to make the most out of Labor Day weekend.
