Duluth Armory Seeks Volunteers for Saturday

Press Release

DULUTH - Help preserve Duluth's heritage! The Armory Arts and Music Center (AAMC) is looking for volunteers this Saturday, July 19th for a brick cleaning and window glazing party.

Paul Webster, who works with Black Goose and has rebuilt many chimneys, will demonstrate how to clean old mortar off brick.

The cleaned brick will be used to replace damaged brick and rebuild walls at the Armory.

The masonry repairs will occur later this year as part of the AAMC's $300K Legacy Grant from the Minnesota Historical Society.

In addition to brick cleaning a small group will be replacing glass in historic windows.

The new glass will replace plywood panels in sashes to improve the curb appeal of the Armory as the AAMC seeks development partners to renovate the Armory and bring new life to this Minnesota landmark.

Volunteers should meet at the Armory Annex building (old Perkins restaurant) next to the Armory at 1325 London Road.

The workday will go from 9:00 to 1:00.

The AAMC will provide work gloves and safety glasses.

There will be some masonry hammers but bring one if you have one.

Please wear appropriate work attire including long pants and closed toed shoes.
