DULUTH - For the first time Duluth is being recognized for protecting and enhancing the area's natural resources. The city was presented with a plaque for the way it has used legacy funding, which is a portion of Minnesota sales tax dollars dedicated to preserving the states arts and outdoors.

Some of Duluth’s legacy projects include assessing lakes and streams and restoring the moose habitat.

"These and many other projects are bringing people into Duluth,” Conservation Minnesota Executive Director Paul Austin said. “Supporting the shops and local economy in a way that helps the city remain vibrant and grow into the future."

Since the legacy funding passed back in 2008, there have been 809 projects in St. Louis County.
