DULUTH - A local campaign kicked off to get people out of their cars and onto their feet.
Thirty-five way finding signs were put up in downtown Duluth for the new Walk Duluth initiative, motivating residents and tourists to explore the city by foot.
Each sign has a less than 10 minute walk to retail, recreation and historic landmarks.
Organizers say a brisk walk everyday will promote a healthier lifestyle and economic vitality to the area.
"People are out on foot and there's a vibrant downtown. People are stopping in the shops,” Healthy Duluth Area Coalition Director Lisa Luokkala said. “There's better safety because there's more eyes on the street, people are participating more in the social side of downtown."
Thirty-five signs will also go up on the Lakewalk and 1st Street.
