DULUTH – Engineers with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are planning to check out problems with the new Blatnik Bridge lights themselves.
Two weeks ago, mariners said they were giving off a bad glare making it difficult for them to see.
To temporarily alleviate the problem, MnDOT shut the lights off.
Now, engineers will board a commercial ship and find out what they need to do to correct the problem.
Shipping has slowed down for the season, so if a ship is not available, they will wait until spring to make the adjustments.
But officials with MnDOT said they will turn the lights back on Jan. 16 because after that they will not affect any ships.
