Duluth Experiences Third Snowiest December on Record

DULUTH - This winter came fast, putting Duluth on the map for the third highest snowfall ever in December.

So far, Duluth has gotten less than 40 inches of snow this month.

The city is two and a half inches away from the number two spot and four and a half away from tying for the most snow ever in December.

Carol Christenson with the National Weather Service in Duluth said the recent big snowstorm contributed to the record.

"We had 30 inches in one storm and that pretty much put us way over the top. It was one of those storm systems that we don't see very often and probably won't for a very long time," she said.

Christenson said the outlook for the rest of the winter is pretty average as far as snowfall and temperature goes.
