SILVER BAY - Tettegouche State Park officials say they outgrew their last visitor center, but this new one everyone is fitting quite comfortably in. The new 11,000 square foot visitor center is officially open, giving campers a state of the art facility and accommodations.

The $7 million building is equipped with multipurpose areas, a great room, interpretive displays, amphitheater, 24 hour restrooms and a gift shop.

"So far everybody's just really excited to have the facility open,” Tettegouche State Park acting park Manager Jason Peterson said. “Have a place to come and visit the North Shore again without having to deal with our temporary office that we had set up."

The original visitor center was built in 1986 and at the time the park had 28,000 visitors a year.

Today they see about 330,000 campers a year.

The park will also add more furnishings, an interpretive display and additional landscaping.
