DULUTH - Duluth's ongoing housing issue is starting to see some relief.

Tuesday, the City of Duluth announced big plans for a new development in the Ramsey neighborhood.

Mayor Don Ness, the Duluth Economic Development Authority, and developer Ken Talle broke ground for three new housing buildings.

The buildings will be fourplexes, and will provide market rate townhomes for the West Duluth neighborhood.

Chris Eng, Director of DEDA said, "Over the last 12 months we've added over 1,500 new jobs. Right now, we've got 1,000 vacancies and we're working hard to fill those vacancies. But, one of the challenges now that we ahve to deal with is the lack of workforce housing."

The Ramsey Townhome Development already has 80 units that are completed and fully occupied.

DEDA sais this new development will put them one step closer to their goal of creating 4,400 units by 2020.

The first of the three buildings will be done in about 4 months, and the other two by the end of the year.
