After Intense Rains, President Will Visit Minneapolis Today

FOX 21 News, KQDS-DT

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - For the second time, a U.S. president is on his way to Minnehaha Falls.

Their visits are separated by a half-century.

President Barack Obama was gearing up for a town hall in the city park that has the gushing waterfall at its center.

His stop Thursday comes almost 50 years to the day when then-President Lyndon Johnson peered over the wall during a Swedish Day festival in the park.

The falls are crashing with extra force right now due to intense rains that pushed the feeder creek outside its banks.

When Johnson appeared, Minneapolis was in the midst of a drought and hydrants had to be opened to give the falls some oomph.

Obama planned to spend parts of Thursday and Friday in Minneapolis.
