DULUTH - Tuesday afternoon, CHUM gathered for their annual Christmas Eve vigil to honor homeless who have passed.

Signs with the names and ages of those who died in the past 12 months were held and then individually named.  A candle was also lit in their honor.

In Duluth this year, 29 peope who were homeless died, as well as two homeless advocates.

“They died for a cause,” said Stanley Holly.

Holly was homeless for 16 weeks and found a place to live with the help of advocate Steve O’Neil, who passed away this year.

“We’re here to make sure that cause keep going on for the homeless,” Holly explained.

The ceremony stems from a state ceremony held every year in Minneapolis.
