DULUTH - Duluth police made a bust Tuesday in an armed robbery that left one man with a bullet wound to his chest.

"Obviously we take these things very seriously. We work very hard. We threw a lot of resources at this right away after the incident," said Duluth police information officer Jim Hansen.

Police arrested the two men on preliminary charges of attempted homicide and aggravated robbery.

The men are 29 and 32 years old. The arrests took place on the 1800 block of E. Second Street

The incident happened around 7:20 p.m. Monday at 1709 London Rd.

Police said the suspects went in the ILF Smartphone Clinic and demanded money.

The business owner, Colin Mackin, 27, fought the suspects off in a struggle that ended outside, according to police.

That's when police say one of the suspects shot Mackin before taking off in a car.

"Small amount of property and some cash that was taken -- certainly not worth the life taken. This man was very fortunate that he sustained a non-life threatening injury in the fact that it was upper right chest near the shoulder where he was shot," Hansen said.

Mackin was in stable condition at St. Lukes Hospital Tuesday night.

The names of the suspects will be released later this week when formal charges are filed in St. Louis County Court.
