Doctors: Immune Therapy Can Treat Cervical Cancer
By:
Doctors are reporting their first success using immune therapy against cervical cancer.
In a pilot study at the National Cancer Institute, the tumors in two out of nine women disappeared and those women remained cancer-free more than a year later.
The treatment involved sampling a woman's tumor, isolating the special immune system cells, attacking it, multiplying them in the lab and giving them back to a patient in a one-time infusion.
Researchers are also testing the treatment against throat, anal and other cancers caused by HPV.

Being bilingual may preserve your brain health even if you learn new languages as an adult.
After a mental skills study, researchers found those who could speak two languages scored better than those who could only speak one.
Study authors say this study is the first to take into account childhood intelligence while examining whether learning a second language may affect mental skills later in life.

The number of teens exposed to e-cigarette ads has exploded.
Ads for traditional cigarettes have been banned from television since 1971.
But e-cigs are fair game.
From 2011 to 2013, exposure increased by 256 percent, reaching 24 million kids.
The study says cable network AMC aired the most followed by CMT.
The FDA is considering banning the sale of e-cigs to minors.
But currently, marketing and advertising restrictions are not part of the proposal.
