Public Asked to Stay Off Wet Duluth Trails

DULUTH - Despite the beautiful weather, city officials are asking people to stay off the 185 miles of trails until they are completely dry.

After the flood of 2012, many trails went under major reconstruction and walking on them in wet conditions can eventually cause erosion and slope failure.

"When you take a bike or even walk on a wet trail you leave indentations that when it dries you now have these big ruts,” explained Duluth Parks and Recreation manager, Kathy Bergen. “It's kind of like potholes in the street. It's basically like potholes on our trails."

Trails still needing a significant amount of work include Congdon Trail, Mission Creek, and Chester Creek Trail.
