Bridge Construction May Delay Duluth Train's Schedule

DULUTH - It's a sure sign of spring when trains at the Depot come out of hibernation.

However, this year rides to Two Harbors might not start until June.

The 101 year old bridge on 36th Avenue East was knocked down last week.

It's expected to be finished before Memorial Day.

Until then, the only train running will be the Lakeside Zepher stopping right before construction.

“We want to get this work done so the first run to Two Harbors, the Mother's Day Train, the trains going out to Lester Par,k Lakeside, the pizza trains; all those schedules start Memorial day weekend,” explained Ken Buehler, the general manager of the North Shore Scenic Railroad. “It would be nice if that bridge was repaired by then and we're pretty optimistic it will be.”

The bridge is the last one on the route to go through major maintenance.
