UWS Works to Change Locker Room Culture

SUPERIOR - The University of Wisconsin-Superior is the first university in the state to join the You Can Play Project.
It’s a nationwide program dedicated to making sure all athletes, regardless of their race, gender, religion and sexual orientation, are treated with respect in the locker room and on the field.
More than 70 UWS athletes have gone through Safe Training, which addresses uncomfortable situations and teaches students how to make athletes of all backgrounds feel comfortable in their skin.
"Having You Can Play aboard and having a program where people can feel safe and know that they're safe and know that they're part of a school that supports them is a huge advantage for any gay athlete," former GLBT athlete Scott Cooper said.
As part of the You Can Play Project, UWS athletes and faculty participated in a video showing their support toward athletes who are LGBTQ+ and of different races and faith backgrounds.
