Duluth Gas Station Canopy Collapses
By:
DULUTH- In a scene that was reminiscent of the Greysolon awning collapse,
Sunday afternoon the canopy of the ICO gas station, on E. 6th St. And N. 6th Ave E., collapsed and landed on top of two vehicles.
At 12:45pm, James Hayden said he was using a pay phone at the station when he heard what sounded like an explosion.
It was then that he realized the canopy had fallen over and damaged his vehicle.
Hayden said, "well it came down and landed on the side of the fender and knocked the rear view mirror, busted that, buckled my fender up and the hood a little bit, but I think it's drivable. I was probably maybe less than an inch away from the whole side that came down."
A second man was actually sitting in the driver's seat of the SUV that took the brunt of the damage when the canopy fell.
The man said he had just enough time to jump to passenger seat.
He escaped without injuries and no one else was hurt.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collapse.
