10 Northland Women Embark on Heart Health Challenge
By:

Ten Northland women will be challenging themselves and their hearts for the next 10 weeks.
The women were chosen from a pool of 77 applicants.
The goal is to improve their heart health and lose weight.
The group went to Super-One for a grocery store tour with registered dieticians Tuesday.
It's all part of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Makeover Challenge.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women.
They hope this challenge will help prevent a large number of those cases.

New research has found a possible link between marijuana and schizophrenia.
Scientists took nearly 100 teens, both healthy and schizophrenic, and divided them into four groups.
They performed MRI scans on their brains and found the healthy and schizophrenic teens with a history of smoking pot showed shrinkage in the regions of the brain connected with working memory.
The same group also scored lower in memory tests.

New studies suggest taking vitamins and supplements provide no health benefits.
Researchers found they had no effect on cardiovascular health, cancer prevention or dementia.
The authors suggest vitamins "should be avoided."
Other researchers say the jury's still out on multi-vitamins.
But there's no substitute for a healthy diet and exercise.
About a third of U.S. adults take multi-vitamins.
