Experts Warn Homeowners about Critters Nesting Under Homes

DULUTH - Humans aren't the only ones crawling out of the wood work for spring.

Critters like skunks, foxes, and raccoons are searching for a homey place to have babies and that place is likely under your house.

Wildlife control experts are preparing for their busiest time of the year, and houses on the hillside are like magnets to animals looking for a comfortable spot to lie down.

"They're nesting up looking for a place to have their little ones now," said Allen Edberg of North Shore Wildlife Control.

Edberg has been catching critters for more than 40 years and now he calls it is full time job.

"If you try it and you're not successful, you educate that animal and once their educated then they're a real bugger to catch," he said.

It's a small cabin in the Lakeside neighborhood where a gray fox has decided to call home.

The house had rocks attempting to block the hole, but the experts say putting rocks in front of it is not going to do it.

The animals are going to move them right out of the way no problem.

Its Edburg’s job to get the fox out of under the house before the situation gets worse.

"We want to do it before she has her little ones,” he said, “or else you got three times the problem."

The way he gets them is by setting a live trap and moving the animals back into the woods protecting not only your family and home, but also theirs.

Edberg says this is just the start of his busy season.

Things really start to pick up when the animals actually start having their babies in April.
