Lead Found in Potential Development Site

DULUTH - The City of Duluth is sending out a safety warning for land that it's looking to develop.

Leaders with the Parks and Recreation Division and the Planning Division announced they have found lead on the land at 41st Avenue east and Jay Street.

Duluth city planner, Keith Hamre, said it would need to be cleaned out before they move forward with any development plans.

So once the snow melts, expect a fence to go up.

"We want to make sure people and children do not get poisoned with lead because you ingest it so they could possibly eat the dirt where the lead is or paint chips," said Hamre.

The next step is for the planning division to go to the city council and ask for a clean-up grant.
