Woman turns 103 and gives advice to future generations

CLOQUET - One Cloquet woman celebrated a very special day today with friends and family by her side.

The party at Sunnyside Healthcare Center was packed with friends and family to honor Dora Hughes on her 103rd birthday.

Dora's daughters tell us she's a wonderful mother and even still reminds them to send birthday and anniversary cards.

She taught them about work ethic by giving them many responsibilities like cooking, baking and cleaning.

They say the most important lesson she taught them was to be kind to others.

"Don't bad–mouth people, just be nice to them. Smile and you get a smile back," said her daughter Betty Andrade.

Dora tells us she loves going to church, reading the Bible and doing her devotions.

Her advice for younger generations is to always be happy, kind and love everybody.

Dora's famous saying is "stay positive and pray."

"Stay positive and pray. Count your blessings every day. Take one day at a time and see what God has done," Dora said.

Dora says her secret to living so long is her strong faith and the fact that she's never had a drink or a smoke in all 103 years.
