MN Legislators Push Bill to Prevent Snowmobile Odometer Tampering

HERMANTOWN - Minnesota legislators are working to keep used snowmobile sellers honest.

Currently, it's against state law to change the mileage on a car odometer, but technically legal to turn back the odometer before selling a snowmobile.

Sled experts say they agree with the bill because it protects people buying used snowmobiles.

"It's bad because somebody could be purchasing an old worn down snowmobile in the assumption that it’s newer," explained RJ Sport and Cycle snowmobile salesman, Tony Bianchi. He says the bill will be hard to enforce because there is no record of sales when it comes to snowmobiles.

The bill is on the senate floor.
