DULUTH - St. Louis County took an important step forward in innovative energy.
The Government Services Center downtown installed three different solar panels on top of their roof to be more energy efficient and reduce long term utility costs.
The new panels will also be used to study how effective solar energy is in the Northland.
"This will help us respond to increasing regional interest in solar energy and work with other customers who want to install solar power at their homes or businesses," Minnesota Power Vice President of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs Margaret Hodnik said.
St. Louis County, Minnesota Power and UMD’s Natural Resources Research Institute are partnering for the project.
It will take three years to conduct.
