DULUTH - Seven families who have been homeless now have the opportunity to safely rest their heads at the Steve O'Neil Apartments in Duluth’s Hillside neighborhood.
Over the past few days, families facing longtime homelessness moved into the O’Neil Apartments.
Tamara Prather and her two children have been homeless for two years, and Thursday was their first night in their new home.
"When I went in my apartment I didn't even make it in the door and I started crying,” said Prather. “It was just amazing."
Prather said this will be her family's first Christmas in their own apartment and she's thankful for all the people who helped make the apartments a reality."I think that there are a lot of really kind-hearted people in this city that nobody really knew about,” she said. “I know I didn't. I didn't expect what I came into when I came here."
With a stable home, Prather hopes to get a job and go back to school to support her family.
