DULUTH - The East Basketball Association held its first David K Memorial 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Organizers say the event is twofold.

It gives kids the opportunity to play basketball before the season starts and it's a chance to celebrate David K, a prominent Duluth East Athletics coach who passed away two years ago.

"In our program we do our best to promote servant leadership kind of as our overall focus,” Duluth East High School Head Coach Rhett McDonald said. “There's not a better example of that than Dave K."

More than 200 boys grades 3 to 12 participated in the event.

All of the proceeds from the tournament will go towards EBA youth basketball scholarships.

"It's been so gratifying and so purposeful to be involved with an event like this,” said Rhett. “You know it goes directly back into our program to serve kids."

Next year the group wants to do an even bigger event involving girls grades 3 to 12.
