DULUTH - For the first time Friday afternoon, baseball players who call Wade Stadium home said goodbye to grass stains and hello to their new AstroTurf field.College and high school baseball players got the chance to warm up their gloves and take a few swings to test out their new home.
Players said switching from a grass-and-dirt field to turf won't only impact the speed of the game, but the baseball community across the Northland."I think it'll bring a lot more people out knowing that they're going to play here right away,” said senior first baseman at Denfeld, Nick Thompson. “It should be good for the Huskies us at Denfeld and CSS, UMD all to have one home field that we know we'll play on."
The players said they are most excited about having a dry field to play on when spring baseball rolls around.
Wade Stadium also got new lights, and a new new score board will be installed next spring.
All the improvements are thanks to $3 million in state bonding.
