DULUTH – A Duluth man has pleaded guilty to killing his 13-month-old daughter.Christopher Peterson, 30, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the July 5 death of his daughter Layna. On Monday in St. Louis County Court, Peterson tearfully admitted prosecutors that his daughter was crying and wouldn't stop when it happened. He told prosecutors, to calm her down, he put his hand over her mouth to get her to stop fussing. After that, Peterson said he left the room and doesn't remember anything else.Prosecutors say the plea means justice for those involved."I don't know if this is the right thing to do for him, but it certainly was the right thing to do from the state's perspective because this, today, is really about getting justice for Layna and for this family who has survived this act at the hands of Christopher Peterson," said Assistant St. Louis Co. Attorney Jessica Fralich.Sentencing is set for Nov. 12.Peterson will get the maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
