DULUTH - Thursday was the final night firefighters braved Duluth’s temperatures to camp outside for Operation Warm. The campaign started Sunday evening at the Minnesota Power Complex with the hope of raising $10,000 to buy new jackets for kids in the Duluth area. That dollar amount would pay for about 300 coats. Minnesota Power donated $4,576 to the cause, which will buy about 140 coats. "We see the need in our community every day,” explained Duluth Firefighter Jon Otis. “Whether it's the result of a fire, whether we’re dealing with someone who's having a medical emergency." Preliminary numbers show they've raised twice as much as expected. The final push for donations will come at the Warm Duluth event at Bent Paddle Brewery on Oct. 27.
