HERMANTOWN - The $48 million school referendum that passed last fall is finally being put to use.
Wednesday evening, the district broke ground on a $9 million elementary school expansion project.
It'll include remodeling throughout the school, kitchen renovations, a new mechanical system, new classrooms and a gym.
School officials say the project wouldn't have happened without support from the entire community."Some of us who worked so hard on this our own children will have graduated from high school before the facility's open,” explained Hawk Pride member, Deanna Gronseth. “We're doing it for the future children of Hermantown."
TKDA is collaborating with Wold Architects on the building's design.
Construction will continue through the school year, and is expected to be complete by fall 2015.
