Firefighter Local 101 Warms the Plaze

DULUTH- Duluth Firefighter's Local 101 continues efforts to raise $10,000 dollars to buy 300 coats for kids in need.
Sunday night, the Local 101 is kicking off their "Warm the Plaza" event.
Starting Sunday and running through Friday, the firefighters will be camping out at the Minnesota Power Plaza on Superior street.
They will be selling Northern Waters Smokehaus sandwiches and Mike and Jen's cocoa at lunch time.
Every evening, there will be music from 6–9 p.m. and they will be selling cocoa then as well.
The local 101 says they are excited to be holding the event to raise awareness of the needs of children in the city.
Firefighter Dan Smith said, "you know with a six year old son and a child on the way, I don't think that there's anything more important than protecting our children."
Hermantown teen, Rudy Hummel, who slept outside for a year to raise awareness for the homeless, dropped by to give the firefighters tips for sleeping outside.
Hummel said, "one of them is to not wear cotton. Cotton, when it gets wet holds the moisture next to the skin and keeps you cold. Wearing synthetic clothes wicks the moisture away from your body."
The firefighters will also be selling tickets to the finale event for Operation Warm.
On October 27th they will have an event at Bent Paddle Brewery.
Big Wave Dave will be playing, there will be food trucks, and several distinguished Duluthians will be shaving their notable beards.
