BAYFIELD - The 53rd Bayfield Apple Festival kicked off this weekend and even though the weather is a little cold and rainy people say it will not stop them from coming out to get things like an apple turtle sundae."Drove through the snow storm all the way into town,” said Adam Young from Thunder Bay, Ontario. “Hardly see over the hood." But a main strip full of vendors selling almost everything you can make with apples made up for the soggy elements."This is my first apple fest experience, so it's pretty cool so far," said Sam Auger who also traveled from Thunder Bay, Ontario."We were here yesterday and we had a good time,” said Michael Schommer from Breckenridge, Minnesota. “It's a lot of things to see." More than 60 orchards and food booths are slicing and serving up caramel apples, apple cider, "Then we have apple dumplings, we are doing apple brats," Pier Plaza Restaurant Manager Jared Johnson said. There is even apple tortes and sundaes."We're scouting it out first and then we're going to make our decision afterwards," said Auger."Believe me we will do our best to sample all the delicacies,” said Anne Katz from Madison, Wisconsin. Traditional food fair and 150 arts and crafts booths added even more to the festivities. Most will agree the apples are the star of the show for the more than 60,000 people expected to come to this fall celebration. "Stock up on apple butter for the year and be ready for next year," said Young. Socializing and family fun make it even more special."It's a great tourism event, it's a great community event,” said Katz. “Local crafts, local food, local art what could be better?""Oh yes, oh yes we love apple fest, love apple fest," said Johnson. The Grand Parade kicks off this Sunday at 2 p.m.. FOX 21 will actually be in the parade so be sure to say hello!
