DULUTH - This Labor Day weekend marks the 28th year of the Duluth - Superior Pride Festival. Organizers say the event is to raise awareness, celebrate equality and acceptance for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, allied, queer and intersex communities.
"Come hang out with us and ask us questions,” Duluth-Superior Pride Festival Co-chair Matt Reeves said. “If you have a doubt or something come ask we're all very friendly people that are willing to talk to you about it so there is never an issue, there's not a problem."
The event includes more than 80 vendors, games and activities as well as entertainment from local and national talent.
Some of the attendees we spoke to say there is a huge gay community in the Twin Ports.
They also feel the area is becoming more receptive to people of different sexual orientations especially now with gay marriage being legal in Minnesota.
“Now more so it's becoming more popular especially on the radio and even on t.v. and even with celebrities, they're bringing a lot more awareness to it,” performer Perdita Rogers said. “So I think Duluth has come a long way, we have a long way to go but we're making it."
Sunday events include the parade down Tower Avenue and a fundraiser and drag show at the Main Club in Superior.
