DULUTH - Hundreds of athletes started an epic journey today and it all started with a swim in Lake Superior Bay.
The Superior Man Triathlon was held earlier Sunday.
Racers started the day by jumping off the Vista Fleet for their 1.2 mile swim, followed by 56 mile bike ride and a 13 point one mile run.
Triathlete, Andy Akason said, "the lake wasn't that bad, I'm a swimmer. I enjoyed that. It wasn't as cold as It thought it was going to be. The bike was good. I got a flat 15 miles out, but it was fine."
This year was also the first time organizers offered the 41.5 Tri.
The 41.5 is basically half the distances for each event and gives those not ready for a full tri a chance to participate
