DULUTH - Another deadly danger to worry about during this extreme cold is black ice.It happens when snow melts during the day and then quickly freezes as the sun goes down.
The thin layer of ice that forms is so hard to spot because it looks wet.
"Quite often when you get cold temperatures like we have right now," explained Duluth public works representative, Kelly Fleissner. "You can almost assume that there's black ice out there especially on bridge decks, ramps, stuff like that."
Black ice can also form at busy intersections from dripping car exhaust.
Your best advice is to slow down.
