New Information in Maple Fatal Car Crash
MAPLE - One person was killed in a Saturday morning crash on USH 2 in the Town of Maple.
The crash was reported at 5:14am on Saturday 8-16-2014 on USH 2 near the Olson Rd.
A westbound Ford Focus driven by Derek Nelis, 43, Ashland, crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound logging truck head-on.
Nelis reported to deputies that the car made a noise and started to shimmy before crossing the centerline.
His passenger, Gabrielle Bressette, 18, Ashland, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The logging truck was operated by Antoine Dalbec, 51, of Maple.
His passenger, Sheena Lowell, 29, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Both Dalbec and Lowell reported to deputies that the car just suddenly shot across the road without warning.
Neither driver reported any injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the WI State Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement Section.
