DULUTH - A Minnesota environmental group is preparing to send thousands of petitions to the White House to help protect the Boundary Waters.
Environment Minnesota announced in Duluth Thursday that they've got 15,000 petitions from concerned citizens.
Advocates say the waters of the BWCAW face a serious threat from sulfide mining.
"These positions we are going to be sending to president Obama - petitioning him to impose harsh and stricter restrictions on these mines and protect our precious lakes and rivers," said Kieran Manzella, of Environment Minnesota.
This summer, Environment Minnesota knocked on nearly 50,000 doors and spoke with 30,000 Minnesotans to gather the 15,000 petitions.
