DULUTH - Thursday was a beautiful day for the beach and kids from all over town took advantage of it.
Duluth Parks and Rec held their annual sandmodeling contest.
Groups made shapes like Olaf from Frozen to lions and played other fun games like tug-of-war.
But, organizers say it's not all fun and games and use it as a chance to teach kids about water safety.
"Learning about water safety in a fun way, learning about what rip currents are," said Jessica Eberl, with Duluth Parks and Recreation, "If they're teenagers, they come out here as a group, they need to know what they're looking for if they're going out on that sand bar."
Kids got awards for best design, most creative, largest structure and most natural.
