DULUTH- You might miss the smell of pine needles in the house but now that Christmas is over, it's time to throw out that tree.
Western Lake Superior Sanitary district and area partners kicked off their annual Treecycling program this week.
Christmas trees are banned from Minnesota trash facilities, so this free program helps Northlanders properly dispose of old trees.
Recycling the trees provides fuel, mulch, and saves space for landfills.
Six sites are open for tree drop off now through January 10th:
• At Chester Bowl in the parking lot by playground
• At Lester Park in the parking lot by the playground
• At the Duluth Heights Community Club in the parking lot across the street
• At the Rose Garden parking lot
• At the Woodland Community Club in the lower parking lot
• At the City of Duluth West Toolhouse
Four additional sites will be open through January 31st
• Demolicious (in western Duluth),
• VEIT/Demolition Landfill Services (in the Gary neighborhood)
• WLSSD Yard Waste Compost Site (off 27th Avenue West)
• WLSSD Materials Recovery Center (off Rice Lake Road)
A single one-day event will still occur on January 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Superior, Wisconsin in the north parking lot of the Superior Target store. More details about the 2014 Treecycling program are available at wlssd.com
